Hi, I’m Kimberly Exshaw—the maker behind One Trick Pony Quilted Goods.
The name comes from a phrase that’s usually meant as a dig. A one trick pony. Someone who only does one thing. But I’ve always liked it—because it can also mean focus. Care. Doing one thing with intention, and doing it well.
That one thing, for me, is quilting.
At One Trick Pony Quilted Goods, I create quilted totes, quilt coats, homeware and the occasional quilt—pieces made to be used, lived with, and loved. Most of my work is thoughtfully machine quilted using quality materials and solid construction, designed to hold up to everyday life. From time to time, I also release special pieces that are hand dyed, hand quilted, or made in very limited runs—slower, more tactile work for those who appreciate that extra layer of craft.
I work from a small log cabin on our hobby farm, where life moves at a gentler pace. We share the land with a senior horse, goats, chickens, ducks, bunnies, dogs, and cats—each one a daily reminder that good things take time, patience, and care. That rhythm finds its way into my work. Nothing here is rushed. Nothing is trendy for the sake of it.

Each piece from One Trick Pony Quilted Goods is designed and constructed in my rural cabin in northern British Columbia—a quiet place where slowing down is part of the process.
I make quilted totes, quilt coats, homeware and select quilts with everyday use in mind. These are practical, well-built pieces meant to be carried, worn, and lived with. I use premium quilting cotton fabrics and quality thread, focusing on strong seams, balanced quilting, and thoughtful construction. Most pieces are machine quilted for durability and consistency.
From time to time, I offer premium, limited-run pieces that are hand dyed and/or hand quilted. Natural dye stuffs like indigo, cutch, madder root, walnut, and chestnut create rich, nuanced colors that age beautifully. No two hand-dyed pieces are ever the same.

My work is rooted in heritage quilting—traditional blocks, familiar geometry, and time-honoured construction—but interpreted through a modern lens. I’m drawn to the quiet strength of classic patterns and the way they’ve been used for generations: practical, repeatable, and made to last.
At One Trick Pony Quilted Goods, those traditional blocks are simplified, scaled, and paired with considered colour palettes to feel relevant in everyday life. The goal is balance—respecting the past without being precious about it. These are not replicas of old quilts, but contemporary pieces that carry the spirit of them.
Each design blends heritage charm with modern function: clean lines, useful proportions, and quilting that supports the piece rather than overwhelms it.
