Hi, I’m Kim Exshaw—the Quilter behind One Trick Pony.
The name comes from a phrase that’s usually meant as a dig: a one trick pony. Someone who only does one thing. But I’ve always liked it—because it can also mean focus. Care. Doing one thing with intention, and doing it well. It’s specialized work.
That one thing, for me, is quilting.
At One Trick Pony, I design and hand-make small-batch quilted goods inspired by heritage patchwork, old denim, field journals, utility textiles, and warm collected homes. I make quilted totes, backpacks, roll-top bags, boxy cosmetic bags, sleeves, pouches, homeware, and the occasional quilt—pieces designed to be carried, used, gifted, and lived with.
Some collections lean earthy and rugged, with avocado green, golden yellow, wildlife prints, leather details, and quilt ties inspired by cabin life and worn pioneer blankets. Others draw from faded blues, ticking stripes, plaid, hand-stamped florals, naturally dyed indigo and vintage workwear. No matter the collection, the goal is always the same: practical quilted goods that feel useful, familiar, and lasting.
Most pieces are thoughtfully machine quilted for durability and structure, while select one-of-a-kind pieces are hand quilted, hand dyed, and produced in very limited runs—slower, more tactile work for those who appreciate that extra layer of craft. Whether machine quilted or hand quilted, everything I make uses premium materials, careful construction, and techniques designed to hold up to everyday life.
I work from a small log cabin on our hobby farm in northern British Columbia, where life moves at a gentler pace. We share the land with a senior horse, goats, chickens, ducks, bunnies, dogs, and cats—each one a daily reminder that good things take time, patience, and care. That rhythm finds its way into my work. Nothing here is rushed. Nothing is trendy for the sake of it.
You might also know my pattern work over at Exshaw Quilts, where I design quilt patterns for makers. One Trick Pony is different. This is where the making is done for you—so you can enjoy a finished piece without pulling out a rotary cutter or threading a needle.
When you buy from One Trick Pony, you’re choosing:
• thoughtfully designed, functional quilted goods
• heritage patchwork with modern utility
• honest materials and careful construction
• small-batch work made with intention, not shortcuts
• pieces designed to soften, wear in, and get better with use
I do one thing.
And I do it well.

"This is a lovely product and fit the description. The material is soft and so perfectly handcrafted. It came to me faster than everything else I ordered the same day and had the farthest to travel. This vendor has a fantastic product and the quick delivery is a service I really appreciate. In addition, the packaging it comes in is gift-worthy, if that’s something you’re in need of. Don’t hesitate to use this shop, if you’re comparing others.”
