HISTORY
The traditional Sawtooth Star quilt block made its first known published appearance in the Farm & Fireside periodical in 1884 from Springfield, Ohio. Like many historic quilt blocks documented by quilt historian Barbara Brackman, the design likely existed long before it appeared in print, passed between quilters through community and tradition.
Over time, the Sawtooth Star became one of the most beloved and recognizable blocks in American patchwork quilting—celebrated for its movement, bold geometry, and timeless versatility.
